The Beginning

The Fokker Terminal in The Hague, The Netherlands, is steeped in history, dating back to its origins as part of the aviation industry. The building was constructed in the late 1950s and served as a technical training center for the Fokker Aviation School. It played a crucial role in preparing technicians and engineers to work on Fokker aircraft, contributing significantly to The Netherlands' aviation heritage.

Fokker, a renowned Dutch aircraft manufacturer founded in 1919, produced various aircraft types, including military planes, commercial jets, and iconic passenger planes like the Fokker F27. The training center was designed to reflect the industrial and technological spirit of its time, featuring a vast central hall once used for assembling and maintaining aircraft components, and training apprentices with hands-on experience.

As the aviation industry evolved, the Fokker Aviation School's operations shifted, and eventually, the terminal was repurposed. In the early 2000s, the space underwent significant renovations, transforming it into a versatile event venue while retaining its industrial charm. The refurbishment preserved key architectural elements, such as its high ceilings, expansive windows, and open-plan design, which now serve as striking features for conferences, exhibitions, and cultural gatherings.

Today, the Fokker Terminal stands as a symbol of The Hague's adaptive reuse of historical spaces, blending its aviation past with a modern, innovative future. It has become a popular venue for events like Bridge2Food Europe, offering a unique blend of history, style, and functionality to inspire collaboration and creativity.
