Dr. Sophie Almond-Chalmers is a Senior Policy Manager at the UK’s Food Standards Agency, where she works on the Cell-Cultivated Products (CCP) sandbox programme. CCPs are a completely novel technology, posing unique safety risks and complex regulatory questions. The objectives of the CCP sandbox programme are to identify safety hazards associated with CCP production and minimum levels of tests required to demonstrate their mitigation; address outstanding regulatory questions; and provide a new consultation service to industry so they understand how to compile high-quality regulatory applications. Sophie’s expertise lies in policy development and regulation within the food and feed sector, where she excels at stakeholder management and intergovernmental collaboration.
