- Two Mega-Trends Leading to Increased Consumption of (Alternative) Proteins - Cyrille Filott, Rabobank
Societal changes always had and will continue to have impact on food consumption. At this point in time, two are important for those that are active in the (alternative) protein food category. The rise in the use of Anti-Obesity Medication (AOM) and the gradual, but very impactful, change in the demographic landscape. Anti-Obesity Medication has taken the limelight by the spectacular rise in the use of Ozempic, leading to changes in food consumption amongst the users. Demographic changes, the population getting older, is another change that will impact overall food consumption. At the same time, (alternative) proteins are increasingly positioned as nutrient-dense, sustainable options that align with shifting consumer preferences driven by these societal trends.
